For many South Africans the uncertain economy is one of the biggest reasons to feel down and financially pressured. Keep in mind that challenges pass, and it is important to take care of your mental and physical health while they do.
Here are some ways you can do that:
One day at a time
This old cliché has never rung more true than now. Taking one day at a time will help you to think more clearly and not become overwhelmed. You can’t change what happened in the past. What you can do is focus on today because that is what will impact your tomorrow.
Baby steps lead the path
Trying to make major changes all at once is setting yourself up for failure. Start with something small like putting together a budget. Have a look at your finances and have a plan in place for when you get paid, set aside money to run the month and your day-to-day expenses. Don’t forget to keep a little away for a rainy day.
Consider a side gig
If you feel like your full-time job just isn’t covering your bills then you might want to consider a side-gig. Unemployment is at an all-time high so looking for another job may be tough. Think about what you are passionate about or enjoying doing. This will give you some ideas about what side hustle to start, or simply take on a temporary part-time job.
